Hiking Through Paradise: Ratti Gali to Besal Trek in Neelum Valley
If you’re looking for an unforgettable hiking adventure in Pakistan, the Ratti Gali to Besal trek in Neelum Valley is a must-do. In just 6 days and 5 nights, you’ll get to explore some of the most stunning landscapes and hidden gems of the region, from crystal-clear lakes and waterfalls to towering peaks and lush forests. Here’s a day-by-day account of our journey:
Day 1: Islamabad to Ratti Gali Lake Basecamp
We started our trip in Islamabad and took a comfortable coaster ride to Dawarian, a small town in Neelum Valley. After a quick breakfast break, we hired a sturdy jeep to take us to the basecamp of Ratti Gali Lake. The off-road journey was tough but exhilarating, with stunning views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. We set up our camps at the basecamp and enjoyed a relaxing evening by the lake.
Day 2: Ratti Gali to Hansraj Lake
On the second day, we hiked to Hansraj Lake, which was around 2 hours away from the basecamp. The trail was easy and scenic, with wildflowers and alpine trees dotting the path. When we reached the lake, we were awestruck by its beauty – the emerald-green water, the towering cliffs, and the silence that enveloped us. We spent almost an hour at the lake, taking pictures and soaking in the serenity.
Day 3: Hansraj Lake to Kala Sar Lakes
The third day was more challenging, as we had to cover the rugged terrain to reach the Kala Sar Lakes. These three lakes were a sight to behold, with different shades of blue and green shimmering in the sunlight. We also attempted to summit the Kala Sar peak, which was 4650 meters high. Only three of us made it to the top, but the panoramic views from there were worth the effort.
Day 4: Kala Sar Lakes to Noori Lake and Waterfall
After a good night’s rest, we headed towards Noori Lake, another hidden gem in Neelum Valley. It took us around 4 hours to reach the lake, but the journey was worth it. Noori Lake was a picture-perfect scene, with mirror-like water reflecting the surrounding mountains and trees. We also visited the Noori Waterfall nearby and set up our tents for the night.
Day 5: Noori Waterfall to Saral and Dudipatsar Lakes
The fifth day was the most challenging yet rewarding part of our trek, as we had to cross two high mountain passes – Noori Nar and Saral Pass – to reach the Saral and Dudipatsar Lakes. The views from the passes were breathtaking, with snow-capped peaks and glaciers stretching as far as the eye could see. When we finally reached the lakes, we were in awe of their pristine beauty and clear waters.
Day 6: Dudipatsar Lake to Besal
On the final day of our trek, we hiked from Dudipatsar Lake to Besal, a small village near Naran. The trail was mostly downhill, but the scenery was still stunning, with green valleys and wildflowers welcoming us. When we reached Besal, we felt a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, knowing that we had explored some of the most beautiful places in Pakistan.
